About Math Science and Technology Magnet

Welcome to the Math, Science, and Technology (MST) Magnet Center at Abraham Lincoln High School, located in the heart of Los Angeles, near Chinatown. Our Magnet provides a curriculum that emphasizes the use of scientific methods, logical reasoning, collaborative teaching and learning and individual discovery in the fields of mathematics, science and technology. Our Magnet curriculum meets or exceeds the District’s requirements for graduation. In addition, our individualized academic programs exceed the CSU and UC’s admission requirements. Along with our own specialized program, we work cooperatively with the main campus of Lincoln to provide many Honors and Advanced Placement classes to our students. Also, we work cooperatively with Occidental College, UCLA, CSULA and ELAC for purposes of tutoring, academic enrichment, guest lecturers, and join research projects.

The Magnet program offers opportunities for students of all ethnic and academic backgrounds to participate in a rigorous college-preparatory program, with a strong emphasis on science, mathematics, and computer technology. Students are expected to participate in intensive off-campus field courses, and will be expected to take four years of science, mathematics, or technology courses. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding through hands on learning, academic research, community service, and a culminating research project during their senior year. Over ninety percent of our students graduate and transfer to a variety of colleges such as Cal Tech, Mount St. Mary’s, UC Irvine, UC Davis UC Santa Cruz, UCLA, USC, UC Berkeley, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Dominguez Hills Glendale College, Pasadena College and East Los Angeles College, Cal Poly, among others.

In addition, we have developed partnerships with Occidental College and California Institute of Technology, UCLA, California State University, Los Angeles and East Los Angeles Community College for the purpose of tutoring, academic enrichment, guest lecturers, technology courses offered at our location and joint research projects that will provide post secondary experience for our students while providing colleges with valuable connections to the high school environment.

In the past few years we have been recognized as a Center of Merit which means that 72% of the students scored proficient/advanced in English Language Arts and 51% of the students scored proficient/advanced in Mathematics of the California Standards test.
