The Dream Center

dc

The mission of the Paula Crisostomo Dream Center is to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of students and families of the Abraham Lincoln High School Community.  By creating a safe space that is centered around the experiences of undocumented youth and advocates our aim is to develop leaders that are invested in the creation of healthy and sustainable communities.  The Dream Center is sponsored by a partnership between Asian Americans Advancing Justice, National Education Association, United Teachers, California Teachers Association, and the California Faculty Association.

Staff at the Dream Center support students in the following ways.

  • Support student leadership development through Youth Participatory Action Research Projects (YPAR) where students identify issues in their community and develop community driven solutions.
  • Refer students and families to free or low-cost legal, academic, and health services.
  • Support on campus students clubs in the development and implementation of community service projects (i.e. murals, art projects, Coming out of the Shadows, Community Resource Fairs)
  • Organize college and university field trips.
  • Organize trips to immigrant justice conferences to local universities or community centers.
  • Offer internships to students to further develop leadership skills in public speaking, meeting facilitation, event organizing, and recruitment.
  • Award the May Kishiyama Scholarship in partnership with Dollars for Scholars.
