About Math Science and Technology Magnet

 

Math, Science, and Technology (MST) Magnet Center at Abraham Lincoln High School,

 

     Our Magnet provides a curriculum that emphasizes the use of scientific methods, logical reasoning, collaborative teaching and learning and individual discovery in the fields of mathematics, science and technology. Our Magnet curriculum meets or exceeds the District’s requirements for graduation. In addition, our individualized academic programs exceed the CSU and UC’s admission requirements. Along with our own specialized program, we work cooperatively with the main campus of Lincoln to provide many Honors and over 17 Advanced Placement classes to our students. Also, we work cooperatively with USC NAI program, Occidental College, California Institute of Technology, UCLA, CSULA and ELAC for purposes of tutoring, academic enrichment, guest lecturers, and joint research projects. We have Dual Language enrollment and Dual Credit courses available.

 

   The Magnet program offers opportunities for students of all ethnic and academic backgrounds to participate in a rigorous college-preparatory program, with a strong emphasis on science, mathematics, and computer technology. Students are expected to participate in intensive off-campus field courses, and will be expected to take four years of science, mathematics, or technology courses. Students will develop their knowledge and understanding through hands-on learning, academic research, community service, and a culminating research project during their senior year. We inspire students to be the mathematical problem solvers, scientific researchers,

and technological explorers that are successful in the 21st century and thrive as future leaders in STEM. Over ninety percent of our students graduate and transfer to a variety of colleges such as Yale, Cal Tech, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Amherst, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, USC, Claremont, UCs, Cal States, and Community Colleges, among others.

 

   We provide a variety of opportunities with STEM programs and extracurriculars, including Robotics, MESA, PLTW Engineering, Science Bowl, Academic Decathlon, Debate, Math Club, and Horizon Hydrogen Gran Prix, so that students have an enriching experience. We have strong Advisory teams and a magnet government to nurture student leadership and social development.
