Modern Lit (Period 2)

Course Description

The objective of this course is to train students to read and analyze modern quality literature from throughout the 20th century. Students will be able to explicate writing styles, themes, literary elements and literary merit. This understanding will be demonstrated through discussion, narrative quizzes, comparisons with cinema, and essay writing. The essays will generally correspond to different objectives in the areas of literary comparison, exposition, and individual response. In addition, students will be responsible for mastering vocabulary words from much of the material that is read; assessment and credit will be through the use of vocabulary flashcards and quizzes.
