Math Tutorial (Period 8)
Course Description
Course objectives
Math Tutorial is an intervention course designed to assist students who are struggling in math skills and have been demonstrating low scores in math. The base text for this course will be Algebra Readiness, and various supplemental materials.
The objectives of this course are:
· To review number groups; eg; Integers, signed numbers, rational numbers
· To understand and use decimals and percents correctly.
· To compute problems in all four operations including fractions with 90% accuracy.
· To understand and use general math vocabulary correctly.
· To use the five step plan to solve word problems.
The following strategies will be used:
Students will respond to teacher directed lessons relating to standards
Students will complete teacher generated problems and assignments from their text.
Students will respond orally to drills of basic math computation
Students will be evaluated as to their readiness to move to the next appropriate level.
Other supplemental material will be provided as needed per individual student needs.
Grading procedures
The students will receive grades based on points earned by participating in teacher directed activity and work samples. Students will be able to earn approximately 150 points per day. Total points at reporting periods will be assigned grades as follows:
A -- 90% of total points
B -- 80% of total points
C -- 70% of total points
D -- 60% of total points
F -- 50% of total points
Content standards for Basic Math
1.0 Students identify and use the arithmetic properties of subsets of integers and rational, irrational and real numbers including closure properties for the four basic arithmetic operations where applicable.
