Library Practice A (Period 3)
Course Description
Library Practice is an elective class that will teach students the many aspects of library use and management. Specifically, students will learn the Dewey Decimal Systerm, recognize the Library of Congress Cataloging System, the different uses for the various print media in the Lincoln Library collection and how to effectively use the Internent, various databases, primary and secondary documents for research purposes. It is expected that Library Practice students will be well on their way to information literacy by the end of the semester.
Students are to bring their independent reading book to class each time we meet. Every student must keep a reading log and do several written and oral assignments and AR quizzes pertaining to the book. AP English students, please see me about the AP list.
Each student will maintain a portfolio and keep a copy of the course description and syllabus as well at the course rubric. All student work is to be kept in the portfolio.
California School Library Standards and California Core Standards will be used in this class.
