AP 3D Studio – Philosophy of Instruction

This class is a great opportunity for a student to express his/her own voice and style through a variety of three dimensional media. All content is related to the students’ own focus of interest, pursued throughout each and every project.

The genre encourages the student’s ability to create a visual account of a particular idea, concept or experience. What is more, it allows for a great deal of artistic freedom (the goal of which is to create an image that is vivid and moving in the mind of the viewer).

The students are given the responsibility of performing their own research and development to the best of their abilities, with instructor guidance, and improving them steadily over the course of the school year. One of the goals is to evoke a strong sense of familiarity and appreciation of a message or ideas in the viewer. These ideas must come from the student; while research methods and technical methods can be instructor taught, creativity and inspiration must be generated from the soul of the student artist.

Students are critiqued individually by the instructor and by their class of peers. The focus is on the success of communicating the intended message, effective use of materials skills/techniques and the personal aesthetic of the student. All artworks completed for the class are photo-documented for final appraisal by the College Board. The College Board makes the final decision of points awarded for the course of study.
