Check out the links under "Speak Links" on my home page. Record information in the appropriate places in your notebooks: Vocab Word List, Background Information on Speak, and Interdisciplinary Connections. When you are done recording your notes, write at least one page (about 100 words) on how what you read on the websites connects to your understanding of what is going on in Speak. Be prepared to share 1-2 important or interesting findings with the rest of the class!

Background Info sites:
On Depression
http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/mental_health/depression.html
On the Author
http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/ejournals/ALAN/spring00/anderson.html
http://www.teenreads.com/authors/au-anderson-laurie.asp
http://www.writerlady.com/
Interdisciplinary sites (linking art, history, and music to Speak):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suffragettes
http://writerlady.com/Speak/ and click on Poem/Playlist
Look up artists and art concepts that are mentioned in the book:
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/monet/
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/gogh/
http://www.artcyclopedia.com/artists/pollock_jackson.html?s
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/glo/cubism/
http://www.dali-gallery.com/
http://www.picasso.fr/us/picasso_page_work.php
http://picasso.shsu.edu/

On Melinda's last name (Sordino)
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/reference/dictionaries/difficultwords/data/d0011347.html

(You can also check out the links below for Laurie Halse Anderson's very cool website that talks about her other novels)
